Polearms leave little useful surface in the center of the image, so identification usually depends on the head and butt of the weapon. Shaft length changes very little, while blades can resemble spears, halberds, forks, or entirely fantastic shapes. Mentally isolating the upper third prevents a respectable amount of guessing.
